At the Vienna Motor Symposium, Wolfsburg’s brand has launched three interesting innovations in the field of the ecological powertrain. We are talking about the aforementioned mild hybrid system in 48v that will debut on the next generation of Golf and two other engines able to take advantage of the latest technologies to offer high performance and reduced consumption.
One of these is the 1.5 TSI Evo, which, after having equipped itself with the function of deactivating the cylinders (ACT), now marries the cause of methane becoming, in fact, a double-powered petrol-methane engine. Capable of working with the Miller cycle, this four-cylinder (1.5 TGI Evo) is capable of developing 130 hp and 200 Nm between 1,400 and 4,500 rpm, stopping the consumption needle at only 3.5 kg/100 km so as to give a total autonomy of 680 km, 490 of which without the use of gasoline.
The shock that was missing
The other is the already well-known 2.0 TDI (EA888 Evo) that will be flanked by a hybrid 12-volt system, formed by an alternator/starter plus a lithium-ion battery, so as to support the diesel engine in the restarts and in the phases of lower efficiency reducing consumption. Flanked by new exhaust gas treatment systems and improvements on the friction front, this engine will be able to deliver between 136 and 204 HP promising an emission cut of up to 10 g/km and an average increase of the torque of 9%.
2020 VW Golf; First Test
At Motor Symposium in Vienna, the German Brand has unveiled some details of the motor technology that equip the future Volkswagen Golf. Scheduled for 2019, the Golf Mk 8 will be the first to follow the ideal of Wolfsburg’s Brand to fully electrify the entire range.
