It was the year 1992 and Gordon Murray designed a revolutionary car, featuring a passenger compartment for three people, with the centrally placed guidepost. A refined supercar, strong of a carbon monocoque – the world’s first for a production car – that allowed to contain the weight in 1,140 kg. McLaren F1 was born, driven by a 6,064 cc BMW Motorsport aspirated V12 placed centrally and credited with 627 HP. Now the myth is renewed. The new BP23 is being developed at Woking. And the three seats in the cockpit come back to reality.
Five years after the presentation of the P1, first car hybrid McLaren, the House of Woking has released some images of the “forklift” of the BP23 – this is the codename of the new car – destined to be produced in limited series (106 specimens) and Deeply inspired by the mythical F1. A car still heavily disguised, since the hybrid powertrain of which it will be equipped has so far pulsed in disguise; That is to say inside the body of an adapted 720S or a 675LT coupe.
A “breaking” design
The style of the new car will have nothing to do with the current McLaren production. Beyond the three seats in the cockpit, from which comes the 3 in the initials of the project, it will be a “breaking” car, strong of an absolutely original design. Starting from the absence of the lateral mirrors, almost certainly replaced by the displays connected to cameras. At the moment the details about the powertrain remain hidden, but there are rumors of a V8 4.0 – the evolution of the 3.8-liter Biturbo unit made by Ricardo and currently used in the McLaren – hybridized range to deliver more than 1,000 hp. The car, in the proclamations of the House, is called to become the model of the fastest and most powerful series ever created in Woking. Not by chance, there are rumors of a top speed of over 400 km/h.
