Without giving precise details about which engines will be found under the hood of the new Golf, Volkswagen has confirmed the desire to equip it with a mild-hybrid system (MHEV) at 48 Volt characterized by a starter with Integrated belt-driven alternator and connected to a lithium battery dedicated to 48 volts. This hybrid system would be able to reduce further consumption (0.3 L/100 km) and harmful emissions as well as to guarantee a greater torque and a greater cue especially in the reboots from a standstill in the face of a very small increase in dimensions and weight.

While keeping the remaining electrical system unchanged, which would therefore remain at 12 volts and would take care of the classic functions, the 48 Volt hybrid system allows to activate the coasting function, turning off the endothermic motor and disconnecting the clutch, so as to Sailing without consuming fuel in all those situations where power is not required. At the same time, the hybrid system is able to guarantee a kind of boost in the reboots from the station offering a higher torque and higher efficiency.
