2020 Seat Tarraco Review – Fun to Drive in Everyday Life – Congratulations, it’s triplets: Seat sends with the Tarraco already the third offshoot of the stretched Tiguan platform on the road. Anyone looking for an SUV with a length of about 4.70 meters will not be able to avoid the Seat Tarraco trio, VW Tiguan Allspace, and Skoda Kodiaq. The driving report clarifies how the Tarraco strikes in everyday life.
Immediately after boarding the first surprise: the interior of the 2020 Seat Tarraco in Xcellence equipment feels closer than it looks. One reason is the comparatively narrow seats. Alone the front seats leave about ten inches of space to the door. Also, the seat height adjustment is not prepared for too big drivers: From 1.95 meters between hairstyle and headliner barely room, the lower set is not. The only solution: When Tarraco order omits the sunroof, then much more headroom is available. For average-sized drivers, however, the increased seating position should be advantageous, if not a purchase argument. In addition, all surfaces with which the arms come into contact while driving, are sufficiently padded.
2020 Seat Tarraco Dimensions
The manual longitudinal and height-adjustable steering wheel is pleasantly compact and not overloaded with too many switches. The 10.2-inch, fully digital cockpit can be operated using the turn buttons and push buttons on the steering wheel. Who wants to push it to the top, the speed can be displayed in three different positions.
The touch-sensitive screen of the center console infotainment system is eight inches tall and is easily accessible from both the driver’s and front passenger’s seats. Nice idea: The two cup holders in the center console fix the cups housed there at the push of a button with small plastic arms. A material that is quite common in the interior of the Tarraco. This is all very clean processed, but the many relatively hard surfaces do not really contribute to the premium feeling that Seat likes to raise. But maybe that will work on the street.
2020 Seat Tarraco Performance: 190-horsepower petrol engine
We get the two-liter four-cylinder TSI gasoline engine with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG) assigned. 190 hp drive the 1.8-tonner according to the datasheet. Already at the push of a button, it is noticeable that everything fits in terms of insulation: neither noise nor disturbing vibrations wear the consistently positive overall impression over the first few kilometers. As soon as the tightened FR version is added to the two current trim levels Style and Excellence, the engine sound may change a bit. With the 2020 coming 210 hp and 400, Newton-meters plug-in hybrid version of this falls on 50 e-kilometers away completely.
Anyone who attaches importance to more sportiness at the beginning of the market launch in February 2019 only needs a bit of momentum in his right leg, then it is relatively over with the comfort. A sports car is not the standard-Tarraco, engine sound and even under load barely noticeable gear changes but ensure that you forget too fast to be traveling by a fat family car. The intermediate sprint from 70 to 100 is felt to be over. The highlight of the sportiness is the two paddles on the steering wheel, with which the pilot can shift around manually within the DSG. And here, too: No loss of propulsion when upshifting. The gear changes remain gentle and barely noticeable.
Sportiness or not, driving a partially or fully occupied seven-seater means above all indulgence – at least with the stomachs of up to six passengers. The steering is suitable for urban use, meaning that it is tuned indirectly and smoothly, yet permits precise steering. All the more enjoyable for all occupants is the not very pronounced tendency to totter even in fast-driven curves. Although there are noticeable gaps and gaps in the carriageway, they are only discreet in the interior. The four-wheeler also remains true to the spur and does not have any ambitions to under- or oversteer on the day. How it looks on a racetrack should not matter at this point.
The Lane Keeping Assistant with its penchant for hyperactivity, who asks the driver to take his hands back to the steering wheel after a long straight stretch, also cares about us. Just stupid that they were right there on the long straight. Here may like to be improved a little.
With a view to the armada of the front-wheel drive SUV no longer a matter of course: the 2020 Seat Tarraco can also terrain. But of course all this as part of a family SUV. At the offroad track near Barcelona, he showed at least no weaknesses. And yes, that was planned by Seat of course. But: Even the big city soccer mum-car has to pass through so gallantly.
