finally, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator appeared officially. The new Jeep Pickup will celebrate its world premiere at the LA Autoshow at the end of November. The model complements the Jeep Wrangler JL series with a third variant. The Wrangler pickup will also be coming to Germany in 2019.
For some time now, Spied images have been circulating through the net, showing a Jeep Wrangler with an open cargo area clad in black camouflage films. Now it’s official: The Wrangler pickup will celebrate its world premiere at the LA Auto Show (November 30 to December 10) in Los Angeles, California. Also, the name was allegedly already fixed: The third Wrangler should after the first rumors “Scrambler” hot. Now, however, there are other indications, in the short term leaked with a note on the official FCA side in the US the name “2020 Jeep Gladiator”.
As a “scrambler” the Wrangler would quote a direct ancestor, which was then still produced as a Jeep CJ: The CJ 8 Scrambler was offered in the years 1981 to 1987 and sat on an extended wheelbase. The same will apply to the 2020 Jeep Wrangler pickup. However, the new model builds in contrast to the original Scrambler and also to the already presented in the 2004 study “Gladiator” on a four-door double cabin. The “Gladiator” concept, in turn, used the name of another, classic Jeep pickup, which was successful in the 1960s as a truck variant of the big Jeep SJ Wagoneer.

The upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup is the same as the C-pillar of the new Wrangler JL series. Directly behind it sets with the so far-sighted a normal Hardtop comparable Cabin conclusion, the Jeep Wrangler pickup can be driven accordingly like the normal Wrangler Unlimited as Cabrio. A heavily extended rear overhang for the loading area allows it to grow to a length of around 1.5 meters, significantly more than the Wrangler JL has to offer under the hardtop under the cargo hold. The spare wheel gets the scrambler as usual with pickups suspended under the loading area.
No big surprises are to be expected with the drive variants. The base engine, a 3.7-liter V6 gasoline engine, will continue to be reserved for the US. To Europe, the Jeep Wrangler pickup (debut probably in late summer 2019) with the modern four-cylinder engines: a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 200 hp and the new group gasoline engine with two liters of capacity, for example, in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio already up to 280 hp is on the way. It is also conceivable that the Wrangler pickup receives the already announced hybrid version with the two-liter gasoline engine as the main engine.
The pickup jeep also comes as a Rubicon variant
In a first merchant presentation leaked on the Internet, the Wrangler pickup is called the “All New 2020 Jeep Pickup”, which indicates a production start in 2019. Also already leaked: As with the normal Jeep Wrangler, there will also be the upcoming pickup in several types of equipment and technical variants. The basis is the Wrangler Pickup “Sport”, which is joined by a particularly well-equipped “Overland” model and, even more exciting, a “Rubicon” variant. With the Wrangler Rubicon off-road system – including reinforced axles with differential locks, special transfer case with ultra-short off-road terrain – the Jeep Wrangler pickup would probably be the most off-road truck on the market.
